COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal baseball team improved to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in the Interstate 8 following their doubleheader sweep over Hastings Tuesday at Lowe Field.
In the opener, Coldwater broke open a 2-2 tie with eight runs in the fifth inning, adding a pair of runs in the sixth to take a 12-2 victory. Drake Thornton almost hit for the cycle with a triple, double, and single. He also drove in three runs. Cam Heinemann was the winning pitcher, allowing 2 unearned runs on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Cardinals capitalized on seven Hastings errors to shut out the Saxons 10-0 in five innings. Cole Heinemann allowed only one hit while striking out 7 in the complete game victory, while Eddie Pool had two singles.
Coldwater returns to action next Tuesday, April 25, at Marshall.
