LAGRANGE COUNTY, IN (WNWN/WTVB) – A Sturgis man was badly injured Saturday afternoon when the Indiana State Police say his pickup truck and a LaGrange County Sherriff’s Department vehicle crashed at a intersection in LaGrange County, Indiana.
The State Police say the crash happened at the intersection of State Road 120 and County Road 100 East.
According to a preliminary investigation, 34-year-old LaGrange County deputy Zachary Anderson of Middlebury, Indiana was traveling east on 120 with his emergency lights and siren activated responding to an unrelated call.
The crash took place after the northbound pick up allegedly failed to yield and pulled into the path of the deputy’s vehicle. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
The collision caused the pick up to overturn and come to rest on its roof while the deputy’s vehicle came to rest in a nearby ditch.
The driver of the pickup, 33-year-old Jamie Espinal-Albor, had to be extricated from the wreckage by the Howe, Indiana Fire Department. He was then flown from the scene to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with serious injuries.
Anderson and his K9 partner were not injured but the deputy was taken to Parkview Hospital in LaGrange to be checked out. The investigation into the crash is continuing.
