QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Voters in the Quincy Community Schools district on Tuesday rejected a $60 million bond proposal which aimed to fund extensive renovations and the demolition of a century-old middle school, failed by a significant 70.5% margin. Official results showed 1,076 “no” votes against 450 in favor.
Superintendent John Denney says the next step for the district is to regroup and get feedback on how to move forward
Denny says at some point they will take a revamped proposal back to the voters to address the the much needed infrastructure issues but that might not happen until May of 2027
District officials attributed the rejection to a challenging economic climate, noting that rising costs for gas and food have placed heavy financial pressure on local households. The strongest opposition came from rural agricultural townships, where farmers are currently facing high expenses for diesel and fertilizer.
Denny says they are looking at the possibility of community surveys for additional feedback as they look to move forward.
