COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities says crews will begin proactively replacing lead water service lines in the city during the month of September.
According to a news release from the city, there have not been any issues with lead or copper during water quality testing in the City of Coldwater. They say lead pipe replacement is taking place because of a state rule to remove lead service lines and keep lead out of the water systems.
Water utilities have until 2050 to complete the work. The work that is taking place in Coldwater over the next three years is funded by a state grant.
Coldwater BPU officials say they intend to finish lead pipe replacement by 2033. During this time, citizens can track the progress of proactive lead pipe replacement on the Lead Pipe Replacement dashboard.
Additionally, the dashboard will show the general areas in the City of Coldwater that have lead service lines.
