COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In a letter sent to employees at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital on Thursday, Site Adminstrator Dan Schwanke stated that ProMedica has “made the difficult decision” to close ProMedica Home Health serving Branch and Hillsdale Counties and ProMedica Hospice serving Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties.
Schwanke said both agencies will likely close by December 10, 2023 and that this decision is part of ProMedica’s overall exit of the hospice and home care businesses. According to Schwanke, this will enable ProMedica “to sharpen their focus on core health system operations and foster a more stable and sustainable organization”. The letter went on to say ProMedica is working to ensure that the necessary staff members remain in place to care for patients and help transition their care as needed.
Schwanke concluded his letter by saying, “we emphasize with the home health and hospice employees affected by these changes and we are committed to helping them through their transition.”
And so it begins…. the transition from non-profit to for-profit status…. healthcare will never be the same in this county… there will be fewer services available, yet the costs will be constantly increasing… patients will no longer have treatment options… the determination of who lives and who dies will be left up to the number crunchers….. so sad……
