GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – It may be a few weeks before it’s known what caused last Tuesday night’s British Petroleum gasoline line break north of Girard that resulted in 84,000 gallons of gasoline being spilled.
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman says the portion of the line that was damaged was located, extracted, and sent to a third party for analysis and determination of the case and that results are expected in a few weeks.
The line was constructed and installed in 1953 and delivers three million gallons of fuel per day. Norman said the spill affected an area of about 30 by 50 feet.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy are now overseeing the cleanup after the supervision was transitioned from the EPA.
It’s expected Bell Road from Girard Road and County Line Road will be closed until at least Friday.

Does it matter? Even if there is horrible contamination Dud Norman is just going to say everything is fine, no harm, no foul.
