BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Firefighters from three departments had to put out a fire in a large swamp on Monday evening.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says Bronson firefighters were notified of an outside fire near 131 North Parham Road at 5:20 p.m. by Branch County Central Dispatch.
Wilber was attending the Bronson City Council meeting when the siren across the street at the fire department went off.
He reports crews arrived to find fire in a large swamp with grass up to 10-feet tall and that the blaze started when hot exhaust from a four-wheeler came in contact with the grass.
The swamp, which is east of Parham Road and south of Lindley Road, is approximately 1 mile long and half a mile wide.
Mutual aid was received from Colon and Burr Oak Fire Departments.
One Colon Firefighter was treated by fire personnel and LifeCare Ambulance for overexertion.
Crews were on scene for over five hours. Wilber says the fire burned about 80 acres.
