BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Deer hunters in Branch County took advantage of temperatures that got into the low 60’s on Wednesday during the opening day of the Michigan Firearms season.
The Michigan D.N.R. says as of 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning, over 21,000 deer have been harvested statewide which includes 478 in Branch County.
The Branch County total included 347 deer with antlers and 131 without antlers. Sanilac County reported the most deer kills with 905.
Hillsdale County had the second highest number of deer taken in the 83 Michigan counties through the first 24 hours of firearms season with 602 deer harvested. Calhoun County hunters bagged 491 deer while 258 deer were taken in St. Joseph County.
Deer hunters are required to report a successful harvest within 72 hours or before transferring possession of the deer.
