BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says a 40-year-old inmate from Southgate, Michigan hanged himself while in custody at the jail Thursday morning.
Around 9:30 a.m. deputies at the jail in Battle Creek responded to a male hanging himself with a bedsheet in a shower unit. Several deputies, as well as jail medical staff and Battle Creek Fire/Rescue performed life saving measures.
The man was transported by LifeCare Ambulance to Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek where he died.
The Calhoun County Sheriff has requested that the Michigan State Police investigate the incident.
Due to the investigation, no further information is being released at this time.
