BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – All of Branch County’s high school boys basketball teams were in action Friday night, but only two squads were able to bring home victories.
At Western High School, the Panthers remained perfect in the Interstate 8 at 9-0 and improved to 13-5 overall with a 51-38 win over Coldwater despite committing 18 turnovers.
Austin Downs led all scorers with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Gavin Taylor and Niko Downs had 8 points apiece, while Zach Coffing had a team-high 5 rebounds. The Cardinals fell to 6-14 overall, 4-6 in the Interstate 8, and will welcome Pennfield to the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium, next Friday on Senior Night.

Oriole Week at Quincy wrapped up on a sour note. The Orioles led Maple Valley 19-11 after the first quarter, 22-19 at halftime, and 42-34 after 3. The Lions used an 18-5 fourth quarter to pick up the 52-47 upset win.
Brandon Miner led the O’s with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Quincy falls to 8-10 overall, 3-6 in the Big 8 with the loss; they will play at Bronson Tuesday night.

The Vikings lost their third consecutive game as they suffered a 62-48 setback against visiting Springport. Bronson fell to 11-6 overall, 7-3 in the Big 8.
Union City improved to 10-8 overall, 6-4 in the Big 8, as they picked up a 42-39 win at Reading. The Chargers will host Calhoun Christian next Tuesday.
Tekonsha lost at Hillsdale Academy 67-25. The Indians fell to 3-16 overall, 1-11 in the SCAA East, and will play at Mendon next Tuesday.
And Pansophia Academy earned their second win of the season with a 47-40 victory against the Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor. The Pumas will host Jackson Prep next Wednesday.
