CENTREVILLE, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The arrest last week of a 25-year-old Sturgis man who was a suspect in the March 20 sexual assault of two girls under the age of 13 during a home invasion has drawn a reaction from Michigan Republican Congressman Tim Walberg.
The suspect was being held last Friday on a charge of First Degree Home Invasion and two counts of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.
He was also being held on an Immigration Detainer as it was believed he was in the country illegally.
Walberg said in a statement issued by his office that “it’s another painful reminder of the consequences of an unsecure border.”
The man was wanted in connection to what happened at the Sweet Lake Mobile Home Park near Sturgis. He was apprehended in Fort Wayne, Indiana thanks to a cooperative effort involving local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Among the assisting agencies were Sturgis Police, Fort Wayne Police, St. Joseph County Central Dispatch, Indiana State Police, Michigan State Police, Indianapolis Metro Police and their Violent Crime Task Force Team, TSA, ICE, FBI, Homeland Security and Chucks Towing.
