COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Mother Nature continues to mess things up.
After a drab and dreary Memorial Day which featured drizzle and wind chills in the 50s, Sunday morning was not much better for the 76th annual Branch County Fly-in Breakfast at the Branch County Memorial Airport.
The annual fundraiser for the Aviation Club of Branch County became the latest victim of the lousy spring weather we have had to put up with this year.
The low clouds prevented many pilots from traveling to Coldwater. Normally, pilots fly in from all over the Midwest for the breakfast but Airport Manager Joe Best says the ceiling on Sunday morning was only 300 feet.
Three airplanes arrived late in the morning as the clouds started to break up.
Best says they still managed to serve about 500 breakfasts as those who attended were able to enjoy a classic car show as well as displays of motorcycles and pontoon boats.
The money raised from the event will go towards scholarships for students who are interested in pursuing a career in aviation.
