COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 21-year-old Quincy man was arrested for fleeing and eluding on Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle hit a Branch County Sheriff’s Department patrol car.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the incident happened at about 12:30 p.m..
They say a deputy tried to stop a motorcycle that was traveling at a very high rate of speed westbound on Dorrance Road. The motorcycle turned north on Fiske Road and continued driving at a high rate of speed while passing vehicles in the opposite lane.
The deputy terminated the pursuit, due to the residential area. While checking some side roads, the deputy saw the motorcycle traveling west on Penn Drive. The deputy then turned into a parking lot to position himself to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle.
The motorcycle failed to negotiate the curve on Penn Drive and drove directly into the rear driver side of the patrol car.
The motorcycle driver was immediately taken into custody without further incident. He refused medical treatment and was transported to the Branch County Jail and where he was lodged on charges of fleeing and eluding.
The deputy was not injured. He was wearing his seatbelt and the operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. Deputies were assisted at the scene by LifeCare Ambulance.
