COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy woman was ordered to serve time in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court following a high speed chase on March 15 that started in Quincy and ended near Angola, Indiana.
37-year-old Briennie Lee Bicknell was ordered to serve 12 months to 15 years after entering no contest pleas to charges of fourth degree fleeing and eluding from a police officer and fourth degree child abuse.
The prison sentence was handed down after Branch County prosecutors filed a fourth time habitual offender sentencing enhancer against Bicknell.
She was also facing six charges including three felony counts in Steuben County in connection with the pursuit. A trial has been scheduled for October 24.
Branch County court documents state the high speed pursuit involving the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police started when Bicknell and 41-year-old Joseph Bicknell were reported to be unwanted subjects at a residence on Liberty Street.
The suspect vehicle immediately left the scene after police arrived. It allegedly swerved in and out of traffic as it headed west. The Michigan State Police trooper ended his pursuit due to department policy but the Branch County Sheriff’s deputy continued.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department alerted Indiana authorities about the pursuit as it headed south on I-69 with speeds reaching over 100 mph.
Stop sticks were used at the state line to eventually bring the pursuit to a conclusion.
Court documents state Bicknell’s eight month old daughter was removed from the back of the van by police and taken to Cameron Hospital for a precautionary exam.
