COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Additional charges have been filed against a Coldwater Lake man who is now being held on a $10 million bond.
22-year-old MaCain Matthew Snyder was originally charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder after he allegedly ran down and injured the grandparents of a girl he was reportedly stalking on June 10 in Kinderhook Township.
Branch County Prosecuting Attorney Zach Stempien also charged Snyder with two counts of failure to stop at the scene of a serious impairment crash.
Michigan State Police say Snyder drove his Ford Ranger truck into the grass as he headed out of Simco Drive and struck a 81-year-old man and his 77-year-old wife near their home. They reportedly were walking to the home of Snyder’s mother to tell her of accusations the man made against them.
The couple told Michigan State Police that Snyder came to their home in the Shawnee Shoals subdivision and accused them of sexually abusing the girl Snyder was allegedly stalking.
Stempien says the allegations of sexual assault were dispelled by the alleged victim.
The investigation continued into Snyder’s alleged activities prior to the crash.
As a result, Stempien charged Snyder with three additional counts of Aggravated Stalking on victims other then the crash victims as well as charges of using a computer to commit a crime and malicious use of a telephone service.
Snyder was arraigned on the new charges on Friday and following a request by Stempien, Snyder’s bond was increased to $10-point-3 million with conditions of no contact with the alleged victims.
In addition, Snyder was ordered by the court to undergo examination for criminal competency and responsibility.
