Thomas Harold Barton, 86, of Quincy, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
There will be no services or calling hours at this time.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy.
He was born on November 23, 1937 in Monroe to Harold and Helen (Noel) Barton. Thomas married Janet L. (Spade) on February 20, 1985 and she survives.
Thomas started his own farm when he was 16 years old and the fist tractor he bought was an Oliver. He worked at Henry Early’s sawmill, Lazy Boy and retired in 1996 from Ford Motor Company where he worked for 30 years.
Thomas also owned Tom Bartons Harness and Saddle Shop where he would repair harness’s for Greenfield Village and Raceway Park. He was also a founding member of Monroe Pony Pulling Association. He raised work horses, race horses and pulling pony’s.
Thomas always loved working with wood, chain saws and built and assembled many sawmills. After he retired from Ford Motor Company, Thomas built his own house with the Amish. He also enjoyed building cabinets with the Amish and transporting the Amish.
In addition to his wife, Janet, Thomas is survived by one daughter, Tammy Barton of Monroe; two step-sons, Todd (Jean) Edwards of Quincy, Troy (Casey) Edwards of Lincoln Park; one sister, Florence Stoddard of Newport; two brothers, Roland (Peggy) Barton of Monroe, James (Sue) Barton of Monroe; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Charles Barton; one sister, Maryellen Gayiner; two brothers-in-law, Joesph Stoddard and Ray Gayiner; one granddaughter, Janet Barbara Grassell and his first wife, Janet Barbara (Baumann) Barton.
