David E. Randall, 67, of Battle Creek, formerly of Coldwater, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at his home.
In keeping with David’s wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
David was born on April 6, 1957 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany to Benjamin and Constance (French) Randall. His father served in the military, so they lived in many different places. David was raised in LaGrange, Indiana and later moved to Coldwater, Michigan, where he attended Coldwater High School with the Class of 1975.
He began working at the State Home in Coldwater and after a couple of years he transitioned to the Michigan Department of Corrections. He served as a corrections officer at several locations throughout the years, including Port Huron, Ypsilanti, and then back to Coldwater at Florence Crane Correctional Facility. He retired in 2007 due to health issues.
While David was generally from Coldwater, he lived in many exciting places during his lifetime, including Miami, FL, New York City, and Toledo, OH. He moved to Battle Creek, MI around 2013 and had lived there since.
David had a large family that he loved dearly, and he was close with them all. He was married to Deborah Satterfield, with whom he had his two eldest daughters. He later married Pamela Smith and shared his youngest daughter, plus two additional stepchildren.
David was a man of many interests. He loved cooking, reading, politics, music, dancing, singing, and gardening. People would stop as they walked past his home to admire his beautiful garden. He was witty, sarcastic, honest, and was always so generous with those he loved.
Left to mourn David’s passing are his children, Kelli Randall of Battle Creek, Leslie (Lewis) Gardner of Albion, Hailey (Bryan) Hankinson of Springfield, Brian Hagelshaw of Coldwater and Shara Hagelshaw of Coldwater; son-in-law Bryant Gardner, his siblings, Benjamin (Trish) Randall, Jr. of Kendallville, IN, Craig Randall of Bronson, Connie Atkins of Bronson, and Mark Randall of LaGrange, IN; his grandchildren, Olivia, Joel, Mara, Brock, Emma, Jenna, and Ellerie; his great-grandchildren, Ivy and Violet; both of his former spouses, Deborah Randall of Battle Creek and Pam Randall-Rose of Estero, FL; and his many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Shirley Szafranski and Linda Scheidler, and his brother, Donald Plaster.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, 2500 Watkins Road, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
