Phil was born in Coldwater, Michigan on September 17, 1942. He graduated from Coldwater High School where he was freshman class president, president of the debate team, and a member of the chess club. He then attended Moody Bible Institute, Reedley Junior College, and the University of Michigan where he studied Journalism.
As a young man, Phil worked in radio engineering, as a news reporter for the Battle Creek Enquirer, and as a math teacher in Fruitport Public Schools.
In 1970, he became the first president of Wind-Wall Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of mobile home skirting and accessories.
Phil’s passion was to spread the Gospel and he began early. By age three, he was standing on the piano to recite John 3:16 at Vacation Bible Schools through Branch and Calhoun counties. After many years of informal Christian ministry, he accepted a call to Batavia Baptist Church, which he pastored from 1979 to 2011.
Phil’s greatest legacy is the development and distribution of the Power Bible CD, a Bible study resource which includes 22 translations, 10 dictionaries and over 20 commentaries. He provided this resource at minimal cost to pastors and missionaries around the world.
Phil is survived by daughters Marjorie (Chad) Gunnoe of Grand Rapids and Sharon (Dan) Crowley of Oklahoma; long-time companion JoAnn Metzger of Bronson; brothers Stephen (Jeanine) Lindner of Saline and Luke (Rocio) Lindner of Coldwater; former spouse Charlotte Lindner of Grand Rapids; and four grandchildren: James, Erik, & Katya Gunnoe and Anna Crowley.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marjorie Lindner, who served with Rural Bible Mission, and brothers John Lindner and Paul (Linda) Lindner.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the American Bible Society, 101 North Independence Mall East FL8, Philadelphia, PA 19106-2155 (https://www.americanbible.org/ways-to-give/).
