THREE RIVERS, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service confirms St. Joseph County was hit by an EF-2 tornado on Tuesday morning. The storm later triggered tornado warnings in St. Joseph and Branch Counties as it moved east.
According to the N.W.S., the twister touched down north of Lewis Lake and was on the ground for about eight miles until it dissipated on North Main Street in Three Rivers between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m..
It had winds of 115-miles-an-hour and had a maximum width of 700 yards.
A well anchored manufactured home was slid about five feet off its foundation.
The tornado completely destroyed a barn near the intersection of Bent Road and Floating Bridge Road.
Farther east on Floating Bridge Road, the tornado reached maximum intensity and removed a two-story barn roof.
Another barn roof received major roof damage while the residence’s roof was partially removed and significant tree damage was also observed.
The tornado continued southeast crossing Mount Zion Road with major tree damage and center pivots being overturned.
Eight power polls were snapped and a irrigation pivot was twisted near Pulver and Null Roads. Minor to moderate roof damage was also reported at three homes.
Farther southeast along Cowling Road, a well constructed shed was moved 20 to 30 feet away from its foundation and part of the structure was thrown into the Rocky River.
The tornado caused minor roof damage to a warehouse along North Main Street in Three Rivers. While a portion of the roof was thrown into the trees across the street, it is believed this is where the tornado terminated.
No one was killed or injured due to the tornado.
