BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Another discussion about allowing recreational marijuana businesses into the city is on Monday night’s Bronson City Council agenda.
The subject has been explored and discussed for over a year but so far no formal action has been taken by the City Council.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says in his report for Monday’s meeting that the City of Coldwater’s GIS Department helped Bronson with creating maps to assist with the discussion.
The maps show which properties in the commercial and industrial district would be eligible for a marijuana business at buffers of 200, 500 and 1,000 feet.
Mersman says one set of maps shows eligible properties out of the buffer zone from schools and churches while the other includes schools, churches, and day care facilities.
Following its approval by Michigan votes in November of 2018, the Bronson City Council decided two months later to opt out of the recreational marijuana law until the state set up regulations.
Communities that opt-out can opt-in at anytime if they want to allow businesses that sell recreational marijuana.
