Sally J. Thornton, 77, of Union City passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Sally will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI, 49094 with Pastor Jayme Palaszeski from Emmanuel Global Methodist Church in Union City officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
Visitation will take place Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m., also at Lighthouse in Union City.
Sally was born on August 3, 1947 to Gordon and Phyllis (Wilkins) Glen in Battle Creek, Michigan. She graduated from Union City High School with the Class of 1965. May 21, 1966, she married Kenneth Thornton in Union City at the United Methodist Church.
She worked for the Union City Register Tribune newspaper for 3 years, 20 years as Union Township Clerk, and in the billing department at Community Health Center of Branch County before retiring in 2012.
She enjoyed quilting, old cars, reading, going out to eat, and traveling. Sally was a member of Emmanuel Global Methodist Church in Union City, the Red Hats, and Ladies of the Lake Club in Battle Creek.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Thornton of Union City; her son, Philip (Melanie Sumpter) Thornton of Grass Lake and her daughter, Kristina (Joshua Severe) Thornton of Columbus, OH; her grandchildren, Autumn (Justin) Jones and Zachary (Melanie) Thornton; her one great-grandchild on the way; her siblings, Gordon Glen of Battle Creek, Jane Beyer of Pleasanton, TX, and Betsy Schultz of Union City; and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
