Robert Edward “Rob” Lackey, 69, of Coldwater, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater after a short illness.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Rob was born April 5, 1955 to Hollis and Martha (Dobler) Lackey in Coldwater, MI., becoming their third son. He graduated from Coldwater High School and Western Michigan University with a BS in political science, graduating with honors.
Rob honorably served his country in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger, serving as a Captain during the Gulf War. Following the war, Rob continued his military career as a director within the military medical unit before ultimately retiring after years of dedicated service with the United States Army.
After settling back in Coldwater, MI, Robert met and married Patricia Ames and she survives.
Rob was a faithful member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater. He found a true passion in life working as a volunteer and later employee of Tiller’s International. There he further developed his talents as a skilled blacksmith alongside some of his best friends. Rob was also a skilled woodworker and carpenter and thoroughly enjoyed restoring his antique John Deer tractor.
Rob was a reserved man with a sharp sense of humor and wit fueled by his intelligence, always making conversations interesting. Rob passed on these attributes to his children who he always referenced by how proud he was of the people they became in life.
In addition to his wife Patricia Lackey of Coldwater, Rob is survived by his children Annelise (Branden) Reylea of Gulfport, MS, Alayna (Scott) Norris, Robert (Sarah) Lackey both of Wyoming, MI; his stepchildren Laurinda (Hans) Jonsson, Sandra Wojack, Michael Clark all of Coldwater, Jesse Clark of Quincy, Kristy Casault of Coldwater; his siblings John (Nancy) Lackey, Peggy (Carmie) Gilbert, Skip Davis all of Coldwater; his 5 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, and his many loving nieces and nephews.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Lackey, his brother-in-law Danny Davis, and his nephews Adam Lackey and Nick Carson.
