MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s softball team dropped both ends of their doubleheader at defending Interstate 8 co-champion Marshall. The Redhawks prevailed 12-2 in six innings in the opener and 10-4 in the nightcap.
In the first game, an 8-run third inning for Marshall broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be too much to come back from. Rylie VanAken smacked a triple, while Mackenzie Searing had three hits for Coldwater. The Redhawks continued their offensive fireworks in the second game with 12 hits, finishing with a total of 23 for both halves of the twinbill. For the Cardinals, TK Boyd had two doubles, Coley Burkhardt added two singles, and Audi Bucklin drove in two runs.
Coldwater drops to 4-2 overall, 0-2 in the Interstate 8. With Thursday’s scheduled doubleheader against Three Rivers cancelled due to scheduling concerns, the Cardinals will return to action next Tuesday at Pennfield.
