COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater took both halves of an Interstate 8 softball doubleheader against Parma Western Tuesday at the Rotary Softball Complex. The Cardinals won the opener 15-1 in five innings and took the nightcap 11-1 in six innings.
Coldwater mashed 13 hits and scored in every inning of the first game. Mackenzie Searing had two singles and a triple and drove in two runs, Rylie VanAken had two doubles and three RBIs, and Mya Porter singled, doubled, and drove in three.Vandria Bucklin added two doubles. Her cousin, Audi Bucklin, was the winning pitcher.
In the second game, Laynie VanAken gave up an unearned run on one hit, one walk, and 14 strikeouts in her first action in over two weeks. She also had a two-RBI single and drove in three runs total. The Lady Cards scored three runs in the first and broke the game open with eight runs in the sixth.
Coldwater improved to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the Interstate 8. They will play in a tournament at Portage Northern on Saturday.

BRONSON, MI – Bronson improved to 9-5 overall and remained perfect in the Big 8 at 8-0 following a doubleheader sweep against cross-county rival Quincy, 11-0 and 8-3.
Ashlyn Harris threw a complete game five-inning four-hitter with three walks and 12 strikeouts in the opener. She also helped her own cause with a single and a triple. Braelynn Gimenez and Lydia Wells each homered, while Kailynne Scare and Roni Bir doubled. Makiya Feltner had two of the four Quincy hits as Hannah Brown took the loss on the circle.
The Orioles lost the nightcap despite out-hitting the Vikings 11-6. The Skirka sisters, Danika and Deziray, each had three hits. For Bronson, Well singled and doubled, while Harris had another triple. Maddie Shaw was the winning pitcher.
Quincy fell to 8-13 overall, 4-4 in the Big 8, and will host the Oriole Classic tournament on Saturday. Bronson returns to action Thursday with a doubleheader at Schoolcraft.
