COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission directed Planning Director Robert Hawley on Monday night to bring an amended ordinance to them next month that would allow tattoo parlors as a permitted use in the C-2 Central Business Zoning.
The Planning Commission recommended to the City Council last month that a city ordinance be changed which would allow such a business in the district by Special Land Use.
Initially, tattoo parlors would not have been allowed on U.S. 12 or on Monroe Street. But Branch County Economic Growth Alliance Director Audrey Tappenden said in a letter to the Planning Commission for Monday’s meeting that the D.D.A. was against the exclusion of tattoo parlors from specific locations in the district.
The tattoo parlor discussions started after Jason Salinaz told the Planning Commission in February he wanted to run a tattoo business at 87 West Pearl Street across the street from the U.S. Post Office.
The City Council will make the final decision on the Planning Commission’s recommendation which is expected to come to a vote during their June meeting.
