BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB)- A 70-year-old man is dead after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle late Sunday night in Battle Creek.
According to police, the Battle Creek man, , was riding near Michigan Avenue and North Mason Avenue in the Urbandale neighborhood around 11:20 p.m. when he was hit by the vehicle, driven by a 24-year-old Kalamazoo woman.
Responders found the man laying in the roadway and tried to help him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman initially left the scene, however, police said she later called Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch to report the crash; officers then found her and the vehicle.
She was taken to the Calhoun County Jail on charges related to the crash, according to police, who said alcohol and marijuana use are believed to be contributing factors at this time.
This incident remains under investigation by BCPD.
