COLDWATER MI, (WTVB)- A investigation earlier this year into the production of black market butane hash oil at a residence on Marshall Rd had led to the arrest of a Branch County couple more then two months later.
Stephen and Chelsea Rainey were arrested on May 14th following the months long investigation.
Stephen Rainey with the manufacture of more than 45 kilograms of marijuana products, a felony that carries up to 15 years in prison , and the manufacture of more than five kilograms but less than 45 kilograms of marijuana. Rainey faces a charge for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition for a rifle and bullets found in his home. Both are five-year felonies.
During a March raid of the property a high-grade industrial chemical operation to turn marijuana into “hash oil,” a wax-like substance made from marijuana using highly explosive butane gas in a toxic process.
In a March news release investigators said it was the most sophisticated lab discovered in Michigan, they also recovered over 2,000 pounds of marijuana allegedly intended for conversion into hash oil, along with 312 marijuana plants, 32.5 pounds of the hash oil wax, and a firearm.
The couple are free on bond and will appear back in court next month.
