BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Viking softball team closed out another undefeated Big 8 Conference championship campaign with a pair of shutout wins against Concord, 15-0 in 3 innings and 23-0 in 4 innings.
Ashlynn Harris threw a no-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts in the opener; she also went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, while Roni Bir went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs and Lydia Wells added a two-run homer.
In the nightcap, Madison Shaw tossed a three-hit shutout, allowed two walks, and struck out six. Wells drove in seven runs while going 4-for-4 with a single and three doubles. Kailynne Scare added a three-RBI double, and Braelynn Giminez went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.
The Vikings improved to 22-9 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the Big 8. They will play at Otsego on Tuesday.
QUINCY, MI – Quincy swept a home doubleheader against Reading, 6-1 and 14-6.
Danika Skirka allowed one run on four hits, four walks, and ten strikeouts in the victory. Deziray Skirka went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs, while Miley Poindexter also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Abigail Burritt went 2-for-3.
Poindexter went 2-for-4 in the nightcap and drove in seven runs as the Orioles pounded out 14 hits. Burritt also went 2-for-4; Deziray Skirka, Makiya Feltner, and Hannah Brown each went 2-for-3, and Shaylee Cope doubled. Brown was the winning pitcher.
Quincy improved to 16-15 overall, 10-4 in the Big 8. They will play at Homer Tuesday in the first game of the Division 3 District hosted by the Trojans.
UNION CITY, MI – Union City lost both ends of a doubleheader against visiting Stockbridge, 12-4 and 13-2 in five innings.
The Panthers collected 22 hits in the first game and scored five runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Tempe Sours went 2-for-4, while Madison Krummrey and Karlie Eagen each went 2-for-3.
Stockbridge continued their hot hitting with 16 hits in the nightcap while holding the Chargers to three hits: a single and double from Ellie Williams and a single from Krummrey.
Union City fell to 10-17 overall and closed out Big 8 play at 5-9. They will play at Jonesville on Tuesday.
