LANSING, MI (WTVB)- Drivers traveling over the holiday weekend in Michigan may notice a different kind of warning displayed on electronic message boards.
Following a widespread toll text scam, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said they have added a message cautioning drivers about the scam to their dynamic message sign (DMS) boards, which are primarily found along interstate routes.
MDOT owns almost 300 DMS boards, which usually broadcast estimated arrival times, road construction, incident warnings, and sometimes weather advisories, according to officials, who said these boards will stray from the standard messaging over the next few weeks in order to remind Michiganders that the department does not operate toll roads and will never text residents to collect payments of any kind.
