COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The appointment of Chris Vreeland as Branch County’s Interim Chief Public Defender was formally approved by the Branch County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday.
Administrator Frank Walsh was notified last Thursday morning of the immediate resignation of Chief Public Defender Matthew Glaser who had served in the position since 2019. No reason was given for Glaser’s sudden departure.
Vreeland has been the Chief Deputy Public Defender and according to Walsh was willing to take over the Chief position until a new public defender is appointed by the County Commissioners.
A search committee for a new Chief Public Defender will be formed which will include the Branch County judges.
