COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Law enforcement agencies across Michigan will crack down on speeding next month.
According to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, speed plays a role in about one-third of traffic fatalities. The state recorded 21,357 speed-involved crashes in 2023. That’s down 32% from 2019 — but authorities say the number is still too high.
That’s why the Michigan State Police and several local agencies are taking part in a speed enforcement campaign for the entire month of July.
Starting pre 4th of July holiday weekend expect to see more police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and state troopers on Michigan roads actively enforcing speed limits.
The campaign is supported by federal traffic safety funds.
