COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council introduced a Coldwater Board of Public Utilities ordinance and resolution on Monday night that implements an inspection process for all industrial and commercial grease traps and interceptors.
Water and Wastewater Superintendent Brian Musselman said fats, oil and grease are detrimental to their wastewater collection and treatment systems.
But Mayor Tom Kramer raised concerns a proposed $50 yearly inspection fee.
Musselman says this will not affect residential customers.
He said in his memo that wastewater collection system blockages are serious, causing sewage spills, manhole overflows and sewage backups in homes and businesses.
The CBPU Board of Directors approved the proposed changes to the ordinance during their meeting on July 2.
Final adoption by the City Council is scheduled for July 28. If approved, it would go into effect on September 1, 2025.
