COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With two weeks before state government faces a potential shut down due to state lawmakers inability to reach a budget agreement, State Senator Jonathon Lindsey says he’s not ready to hit the panic button and believes the race to adopt a fiscal year 2026 budget by the September 30 deadline will get done but says it could go right down to the wire.
Lindsey says Republicans in the House have done their job by passing an early budget that would fund schools, local roads, and many other things. He says despite holding more power, Senate Democrats have not met the challenge
The two sides must reach an agreement by the September 30 deadline or face a state government shutdown October 1.
