COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Legg Middle School sixth grader remains in a Kalamazoo hospital today after being hit by truck while riding her bike to school Wednesday morning.
Coldwater Police say it happened on West Chicago Street (US-12) near Munson Street on the City’s west side shortly after 7:00 a.m.
Police say as she crossed West Chicago Street, she was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 29-year-old male from Bronson, who was travelling westbound on West Chicago.
The bicyclist was treated at the scene by the Coldwater Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance. She was then transported to Insight Hospital and Medical Center Coldwater before being flown by helicopter to a hospital in Kalamazoo for further treatment.
So far there has not been an update on her condition.
Coldwater Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash is to contact them at 517-278-4525.
Meanwhile 26-year-old Alexandria Stolte of Coldwater remains in critical condition at a Fort Wayne hospital. She was injured late Tuesday night in Steuben County when the motorcycle she was riding collided with a car on US 27 near County Road 400 North.
Police say she was thrown from her bike after a car pulled into her path as she was traveling on 27. Steuben County Sheriffs Department says distracted driving likely played a factor in that accident.
