COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater and Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU) are combining their annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day with a Public Document Shredding Day this Saturday, September 27.
Participating communities of the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day include the townships of Algansee, Bethel, Bronson, Butler, Coldwater, Girard, Kinderhook, Ovid, and Quincy; cities of Bronson and Coldwater; and the Village of Quincy.
Residents of those participating communities can take advantage of the service to safely dispose of items including aerosol cans and pesticides, medical sharps, oil and gasoline. Other accepted items include fluorescent light bulbs, pool chemicals, oxidizers, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, herbicides, kerosene, floor care products, alkaline batteries, antifreeze, mercury, oil-based paints, and corrosives.
Items that are not accepted include ammunition, explosives, radioactive material, shock-sensitive material, household trash or yard waste, controlled substances, construction materials or debris, miscellaneous car parts, appliances, unknown/unidentified materials, pails larger than 5 gallons, tires, latex paint products, lab chemicals, gases and non-standard gases, and air conditioning units.
Additionally, the CBPU is partnering again with Biz Aid LLC to offer electronic recycling at the event. There will be no fee to recycle computers, laptops, tablet equipment, printers, DVD/VCRs, game systems, phone equipment, keyboards, stereos, wires, cables, cords, batteries (all types), and other electronic devices containing batteries and/or circuit boards. On the day of the event, Biz Aid LLC will require a $5 cash co-pay for televisions and monitors.
While Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is limited to residents from the aforementioned participating communities, anyone is welcome to participate in the Public Document Shredding Day. While there is no charge for the residents of the City of Coldwater or CBPU customers to have their personal documents securely destroyed, all others will be charged $3 for the service. Paper clips, binder clips or paper in books are not permitted. Additionally, only three boxes or bags are allowed per customer.
Both events will take place at the Branch County Fairgrounds from 9am-2pm. Signage and volunteers will be on hand to direct traffic to one or both event lanes. Residents must provide proof of ID.
