COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – District officials says Coldwater High School, which was originally built in 1956, is in need of extensive renovations to address aging infrastructure and outdated facilities.
After previous bond proposals were rejected by voters, Coldwater Community Schools (CCS) is moving forward with plans for a new bond question in May 2026 to fund necessary upgrades.
CCS will hold a pair of community engagement sessions next week for the public to learn about the bond steering committee’s direction for a potential bond issue next spring. Sessions will be held on Tuesday October 14 and Thursday October 16 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Media Center at the high school, with optional walk throughs of the school both nights beginning at 5:00 p.m.
In early 2025, the CCS board approved a contract with TMP Architecture for pre-bond services, launching the planning phase for the renovations. After conducting assessments and walkthroughs, TMP Architecture began the “exploration phase” in August to develop recommendations for the school board.
Superintendent Paul Flynn has stressed the importance of community involvement and transparency, noting that previous proposals lacked voter support. He assured the community that there will be multiple opportunities for feedback leading up to the May 2026 vote.
Multiple bond proposals to renovate the high school failed in recent years, including a $53 million request in 2022.
