UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings 7th grade boys basketball team traveled to Union City Saturday and picked up a pair of wins in the final two games of the Big 8 Conference tournament.
In game one, the Vikings faced off against the host Chargers. According to coach Derek Shaw, it was a back and forth contest, with the Vikings finding themselves ahead 10-7 after one, led by Dalton Arnett’s 7 points.
Both teams tightened the defense in the 2nd quarter, with Bronson outscoring Union City 5-2, to take a 16-9 lead into the locker room.
Bronson turned up the defensive pressure in the 2nd half, holding Union City to only 4 points in the 3rd quarter, to get the win, 31-13.
Bronson was led in the game by Jayden Drennan’s game high 14 points. He also had 5 steals and 2 rebounds.
Arnett had a double-double, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals and one assist. Kaycenn Stauffer had 5 points, Easton Case had 2 points and one rebound. Issac Price had 7 rebounds, Cooper Kaiser 3 rebounds and a steal, and Sawyer Miller had one rebound.
With the victory, Bronson moved on to face Maple Valley, who defeated Springport earlier that morning. Bronson would avenge an earlier season 10 point loss to the Lions, winning 28-15.
The Viking defense led the way, jumping out to a 9-2 1st quarter lead, and 16-6 at halftime. Bronson would surrender 5 points or less in each of the final quarters, for the final of 28-15.
A balanced Viking scoring attack, where 7 players scored, was led by Arnett and Stauffer, who each scored 8. Arnett had a big game on the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds and 2 assists. Stauffer added 3 steals and one rebound.
Cooper Kaiser had 4 points, 8 rebounds and a steal. Sawyer Miller had 2 points and one rebound. Jayden Drennan ran the point efficiently, tallying 4 assists, 2 points, 2 steals, and one rebound. Easton Case had 4 steals, 2 points, and 2 rebounds. Isaac Price had 3 rebounds and 2 points. Graycen Miller and Wyatt Tracey each grabbed one rebound.
