GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater was able to hang with a much taller squad from Zeeland East all day Saturday afternoon in Boys Blue Division play at the Cornerstone University High School Holiday Tournament. Ultimately, the turnovers caught up with the Cardinals – they finished with 22 turnovers as the Chix prevailed 57-48. Zeeland East led 17-14 after one, 27-21 at halftime, and 41-36 after three.
Julian Thompson led Coldwater with 13 points and 6 rebounds, Jackson Reilly added 11 points and 7 boards, and Austin Downs contributed 11 points and 5 assists.
Josiah Norman led all scorers with 21 points for Zeeland East, while Will Drnek added 17.
The Cardinals fell to 2-6 overall with the loss. They will take on Sparta Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. back at Cornerstone’ Mol Arena in the Blue Division consolation game. Saturday’s other Blue Division contest saw the Spartans fall to East Grand Rapids 61-36.
