COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal varsity basketball teams won a pair of entertaining games against Jackson Northwest Friday on Hall of Fame Night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
In the girls game, Coldwater opened up a 15-5 first quarter lead, had a 25-11 halftime advantage, and defeated Northwest 45-22. The Cardinals forced 21 turnovers, while the Mounties went 0-for-5 from downtown and 8-for-22 from the free throw line.
Mya Porter led the way for the Lady Cards with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocks. Addy Bucklin added 10 points and 4 assists, while Rylie VanAken finished with 8 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Coldwater improved to 9-6 overall and 7-2 in the Interstate 8. They will host East Lansing on Tuesday.
Northwest won the JV contest 53-6.

The Cardinal boys were able to avenge a 65-58 loss at Northwest on December 18th by beating the Mounties 61-50. Coldwater led 10-9 after the first quarter, 22-19 at halftime, and 41-32 after three.
Julian Thompson had a team-high 16 points, while Gavin Taylor added 15 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Owen Tappenden came off the bench to score 10.
Coldwater improved to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the Interstate 8. They will play at Parchment Tuesday night in a game that was recently added to the schedule.

Between the two varsity games, the newest members of the Coldwater High School Athletic Hall of Fame were introduced:
- Jeff Bilsborrow, Class of 1995 (cross country, wrestling, track)
- Tad Thayer, Class of 1988 (cross country, track)
- Kurt Darrow, Class of 1973 (football, basketball, tennis; went on to a four-decade career at La-Z-Boy, including 12 years as CEO)
