HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – Hillsdale Hospital has achieved a significant medical milestone with the successful completion of its first lumbar total disc replacement, performed by Dr. Amritraj Loganathan and the Hillsdale Spine Center team.
This advanced procedure offers a motion-preserving alternative to traditional spinal fusion by replacing degenerated discs with artificial implants rather than fusing vertebrae together. Dr. Loganathan, supported by a specialized surgical team including general surgeon Dr. William Morgan and Nicole Salloum, PA-C, said that Hillsdale is currently the only facility in the surrounding five counties providing this specialized neurosurgical care.
The inaugural patient, Megan Taylor, reported an immediate and life-changing resolution to 15 years of chronic back pain, regaining full mobility within hours of the December surgery.
Launched officially in January 2026, the Hillsdale Spine Center was developed to address the high regional demand for spine care and sustain rural health through sophisticated surgical options. Hospital President and CEO Jeremiah J. Hodshire emphasized that such innovations are vital for the community’s future, providing local access to treatments typically found only in major metropolitan hubs.
