BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – With the regular season now in the books, high school wrestling teams throughout Michigan now set their sights on postseason glory, as the MHSAA Team and Individual Wrestling tournaments begin this week.
Bronson will host a Division 3 Team District Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The Vikings will take on Pennfield in the Semifinals, while Quincy faces Hillsdale. The winners will square off for the District title and the chance to move on to Team Regionals next Wednesday.
Union City was slated to host a Division 4 Team District on Wednesday, but the other teams assigned to the District withdrew. The Chargers automatically advance to a Division 4 Team Regional next Wednesday, with the site to be announced.
Coldwater will host a Division 2 Team District Thursday at 5 p.m. On adjoining mats, the Cardinals will face Vicksburg, while Three Rivers takes on Sturgis. The winners advance to the District Final later that night.
The Individual tournament begins this weekend. On Saturday, Coldwater will compete in a Division 2 Individual District at Niles, Bronson and Quincy will be at a Division 3 Individual District at Olivet, and Union City will host a Division 4 Individual District. At each site, the top four finishers in each weight class will advance to Individual Regionals next Saturday, February 21st.
Girls Wrestling Individual Districts are scheduled for this Sunday. Coldwater and Quincy have been assigned to the Clinton District, while Bronson and Union City will be at the Dowagiac District. Again, the top four finishers in each weight class at each site move on to the Girls Individual Regionals next Sunday, February 22nd.
The season wraps up with the Team Finals on February 27th and 28th at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo and the Individual Finals on March 6th and 7th at Ford Field in Detroit.
