COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Representative Jennifer Wortz is recovering from a broken ankle sustained a during a legislative snowmobile outing near Petoskey late last month.
Wortz, a member of the House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee, was participating in an annual ride hosted by the Michigan Snowmobile and ORV Association when her machine hit a patch of ice and overturned into a snowbank.
The Quincy Republican made her first public appearances since the accident this week at commissioners meetings in both Branch and Hillsdale counties.
She says although the accident resulted in a clean break of the fibula and additional ligament damage, surgery was not required. She will use the assistance of a 4 wheeled cart and crutches for several weeks but intends to continue her legislative duties, including attending sessions in Lansing.
