COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Residents across Branch County and Southwest Michigan can typically expect the final snowflakes of the season to fall between late March and mid-April.
According to historical data from the National Weather Service (NWS), the average date for the last measurable snowfall in Branch County is April 6.
The core winter months of January and February bring the most significant accumulation, spring snow showers remain a regular part of the local climate, often occurring even after the official arrival of spring on March 20.
While early April is the standard, local records show that winter often tries to linger longer. In nearby Kalamazoo, the final snowfall typically arrives around the first week of April, while areas closer to Grand Rapids often see activity through April 11.
In extreme cases, Southwest has seen measurable snow as late as May 22, reminding us that while the “snowless period” officially begins in mid-April, Michigan weather remains famously unpredictable.
