QUINCY, MI (WTVB) — Voters in the the Quincy Community Schools district are preparing to cast their votes in a little more than three weeks on a $60 million bond proposal set for the May 5, ballot.
The plan, themed “Strong School, Strong Community,” addresses an estimated $47 million in basic repairs and $8.7 million in urgent critical needs identified across the district’s aging facilities.
Superintendent John Denney says if approved, the funding would support major infrastructure overhauls throughout the district
Denney says the plans call for the replacement of the nearly century-old middle school with a new academic wing at the high school, comprehensive HVAC and electrical upgrades, and modernizing safety and technology systems at Jennings Elementary.
Financially, the proposal requests a 4.55 mill net tax increase, Denney talks about the cost versus reward for the average homeowner.
District leaders have emphasize that this approach was chosen over building entirely new schools to maximize cost-efficiency while resolving persistent code violations and plumbing failures.
