LAGRANGE, IN (WTVB) – The Bronson Viking baseball team built an early 14-1 lead over cross-state rival Prairie Heights, then had to hang on for dear life to earn a 16-15 victory that was called after six innings due to darkness.
The Panthers clawed their way back into the contest by scoring 3 runs in the third, 2 in the fourth, and 3 in the fifth. The Vikings plated two more runs in their half of the sixth inning. With two out in the bottom of the sixth, Prairie Heights pushed six runs across without the benefit of a hit. The tying run was in scoring position when Bronson pitcher Reid Stukey struck out the final batter to end the game and get the win.
Max Byler went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Joe Fair was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs driven in.
The Vikings will take a 7-2 record to a round-robin invitational Saturday at Buchanan.
SPRINGPORT, MI – Quincy could only muster one hit the entire doubleheader as Springport swept to a home field victory, 10-0 in 5 innings and 5-1.

Not to be outdone, Gibson Overweg tossed a complete game one-hitter with two walks and 16 strikeouts for Springport in the nightcap. Seth VanStelle had the only Quincy hit; he also scored the only Oriole run.
Quincy fell to 5-3-1 overall and 2-2 in the Big 8. They will host cross-county rival Bronson on Tuesday.
