COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Police Department has released its first-quarter activity report for 2026, revealing a significant drop in overall police activity and crime compared to the same period in 2025.
Total complaints, which include criminal offenses, non-criminal incidents, and traffic accidents, fell by 19% to a total of 2,111 calls. The most notable improvement occurred in criminal complaints, which plummeted by 30% down to 203 reported incidents.
Other areas of community policing saw stabilizing or downward trends over the first three months of the year. Non-criminal complaints handled by officers experienced a slight 2% dip to 350 incidents, while vehicle accidents held completely steady with no change at 143 investigated collisions.
Proactive traffic and parking enforcement also saw reductions; officers issued 582 traffic citations, marking a 14% decrease, alongside 66 parking violations, which represents a sharp 75% decline from the previous year.
