CONSTANTINE, MI (WTVB) – Bronson saw its baseball season come to an end at the hands of the Constantine Falcons, who defeated the visiting Vikings 10-4 in an MHSAA Division 3 District first round contest.
After Bronson got off to a 2-0 lead, Constantine erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning. The Vikings wouldn’t score again until the seventh. Rylan Fincham was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Ben Stevens went 2-for-4, and Reid Stukey was 2-for-3.
Bronson concluded its campaign with a 19-13 record. Constantine will take on the Climax-Scotts/St. Philip co-op team Saturday at 10 a.m. in the first Division 3 District Semifinal game at Centreville. The winner will face either Union City or Centreville in the District Final.
COLDWATER, MI – Coldwater played their final regular season games before the Division 2 District that they will host Saturday at Lowe Field. The Cardinals split with visiting Portage Central, winning the opener 5-4 and dropping the nightcap 6-5.
Logan Turner had the big bat in the first game, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Finn Hanson picked up the victory in relied of starter Matthew Hurley, while Dayton Ennis earned the save.
In the second game, the Mustangs scored twice in the seventh to sneak out a win. Portage Central prevailed despite getting outhit 11-4. Owen Tappenden was 2-for-4 with a double, while Ennis, Hanson, and Luke Stout had two hits apiece.
Coldwater will take a 17-16 record into their District Semifinal game Saturday against Harper Creek. Coverage on WTVB will begin Saturday at 9:45 a.m. Should the Cardinals prevail, they would face either Marshall or Pennfield for the District title, with coverage scheduled to begin around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
COLON, MI – Quincy dropped their final tune-up before Districts, a 6-4 loss at Colon.
The Magi hit a three-run homer in their half of the first, forcing the Orioles to play catch-up the rest of the game. Quincy scored single runs in the fifth and sixth and brought home a pair of runs on consecutive bases-loaded walks with one out in the seventh. The rally was snuffed out when Cobee Stevens hit into a game-ending double play.
The Orioles outhit Colon 10-2. Christian Craven was 3-for-4, while Kale Dirschell went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Quincy fell to 14-12-2 and will take on Jonesville Saturday at 12 p.m. in the second Division 3 Semifinal game at Hanover-Horton. The winner will face either Homer or Hanover-Horton for the District championship.
UNION CITY, MI – Union City improved to 22-10 after a doubleheader sweep against Mendon, 2-1 and 5-0.
In the opener, Carson Liles was 2-for-2 with a double, and Nolan Chard went 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Liam Payne drove in the other Charger run. Chard picked up the pitching victory, while Liles earned a four-inning save with seven strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Tucker Zweng hit an RBI triple, Jaxson Dadow had a two-run single, and Mitchell Graham added a triple. Simon Swartzle was the winning pitcher.
Union City will face Centreville Saturday at 12 p.m. in the second Division 3 District Semifinal game at Centreville.
