UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City School Board of Education selected Tyler Burgett to fill a board vacancy during their monthly meeting on Monday night.
Burgett replaces Doctor Andrew Yockey whose resignation was effective on July 8.
Yockey stated in his resignation letter that he was leaving the board in order to eliminate any conflict of interest as he pursues a new opportunity to serve Union City Community Schools.
Burgett will serve the balance of Yockey’s term which expires on December 31, 2026. He said in his letter to the board that his “family’s connection to Union City Community Schools dates back to the 1960s, and today we proudly have ten children within our extended family attending UCCS. This gives me a personal investment in the continued success of our schools and community.”
Burgett was one of two candidates who were interviewed by the Board. The other candidate was Clayton Hulsey.
In other business, the Board approved 2026-2027 contracts for high principal Amber Case, Middle School Principal Jamie Thomas and Elementary School Principal Michael Bates.
It was also announced that Nicole Marvin has been hired as the district’s Food Service Director. She was previously the Head Cook at the Elementary and Middle School.
