EAST LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State University men’s head basketball coach Tom Izzo and former Governors Jim Blanchard and John Engler swayed MSU’s president to stay with the university.
Kevin Guskiewicz had accepted the job of president at Clemson University this spring, but the trio and others talked him into remaining in East Lansing.
Guskiewicz decided to stay at Michigan State University and did not sign a contract with Clemson.
Blanchard says Izzo greatly helped the effort to “galvanize the support,” and Engler says “Tom Izzo is my hero; Jim and I are just part of the team.”
Blanchard added Guskiewicz “has the potential to be the best president at MSU in modern history.”
