COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Another art project is coming to downtown Coldwater this fall.
The Coldwater City Council introduced a proposed Public Art License Agreement and a Memorandum of Agreement with Quincy artist Loren Kauffman on Monday night for a street mural in the middle of South Monroe Street.
If the agreements are passed by the Council on September 14, 2026, South Monroe would be shut down for two weeks between September 21 and October 2 from U.S. 12 to West Pearl Street to allow for the installation of the artwork.

Kauffman’s mural is entitled “Northern Chain of Lakes” and is proposed to be placed on South Monroe between Southern Roots Salon and El Taco Loco on the east side of the street and between Caywood Propane and the Rhonda Ives Law Office on the west side.
The Downtown Development Authority has implemented public art initiatives since respondents to the 2024 Downtown Corridor and Public Amenity Survey identified it as a top priority for improving downtown Coldwater.
The projects have included sculptures, murals, and art-centered events.
